In this episode, we are joined by Remainer and fellow German citizen Chris Hoffman to discuss a busy and historic week in British politics. We first discuss the government’s monumental defeat in the Commons’ “meaningful vote” on the Chequers deal, and secondly the government’s subsequent victory in the no confidence vote held the following day. We finish up by contemplating the prospect of a daunting new phase in Brexit negotiations – cross-party consensus-building – and discuss whether the British system can even cope with such a European style of political bargaining.
Additionally the so-called 'Norway deal' and EU citizens' lives during Brexit are covered: If Britain - as Plan B - would leave most key European institutions but enter into the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Economic Area (EEA) - thus acquiring the same status as Norway - the issue of maintaining the EU’s four freedoms, including free movement of people, re-emerges.
