EVERYTHING Is On The ONE...

Being just POST Covid, (glad I got over that hump!) I'm feeling a need to hear something with a bit more "bite" to it... Being a bass player I tend to favor people populated bands and I like watching musicians play. Voices get me too. Three of my faves are Joyce Sims, Tawatha Agee and Lisa Fischer. I was thinking of Byron Miller's bass solo that became "Reach For It". The thought crossed my mental desert that I'd not played nor heard part two in more than a minute...
So I pulled a few of my favorite cuts "off the shelf". Started with #George Duke (Son of Reach For It) and then... #ATQ, #LTJ Bukem, #Waiwan, #Tease, The Ohio Players, #Faze-O, #Michael Henderson (Rest In Power), #James Brown, #Bootsy (only he could've brought together Christian McBride, Branford Marsalis, Larry Graham, Snoop Dogg, Victor Wooten, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Emmaline, Dr. Cornel West, Béla Fleck, Steve Jordan, Uché, Ellis Hall, Bernard Purdie, and Brandon Taz and put them on such a funky package). Nice. Digging furtherI pulled some The Brothers Johnson, Mtume (feat. #Tawatha Agee), #One Way, #G.A.P. Band, #Janet Jackson, #Kool & The Gang (okay Bleu .. which ones did I "mess with" this time?). From Day One it was a given that I would mix in #Joyce Sims' new cut (fire y'all one of her FUNKIEST cuts I've heard yet. Three thumbs up!! "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" = one of my lifetime faves from when I first heard it on a radio across from the Kingsbridge Armory (BX NYC NY) eons ago. I followed ATQ's "Soul Flower" with a version done by #Re-Tide. #Kaidi Tatham... wow. For desert: Funkadelic rehearsing & sounding better than too many bands at their best. It's Michael Hampton on the lead guitar doing Maggot Brain (but he's not alone). I remember the buzz when he first turned up. Listen and learn why musicians. I like this version better than what's on the Cosmic Slop LP (btw: Dennis Chambers sounds like he has 3 feet when he's playing the drums. Dude is un-be-liev-able.)
