Thanks so much for putting this together! This seems noticeably better, but not 100%. It's very puzzling to me that increasing headroom may have improved the problem.
I've listened partway through on my phone and partway on my computer through the browser. The skipping seems less pronounced and less frequent and I don't think that at this level it will significantly impact my enjoyment of the show. However, it still seems to be present in a few places. On the original upload, I noticed quite a few examples around the 3-5 minute mark. Those are now gone. However, I've noticed a few still in this upload. For example, at 16:19 I noticed a bit of a skipping artifact. I recorded it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m4sh3UdPt0QtnyenG5Bp6Rtv7D5W6pmO/view?usp=sharing
The 11 second mark on this recording corresponds to 16:19 in your show. It's very subtle but to me it doesn't sound quite right. Let me know what you think. Honestly, I'm starting to think that I might be imagining this so I'd appreciate hearing either way whether that sounds off to you. To me, it seems like a slight interruption to the rhythm.
Thank you for spending the time chasing this down!
As you suggested in your previous post, I just cleared my browser cache just in case. I listened to the section at 16:19 again and noticed no change from when I recorded it.
I'm really glad that this one sounds better. I think we have the exactly same taste in music, and as you know I mainly make these for myself but I pay to host them here just in case there is someone out there who might enjoy them. I don't like all my own mixes, I make so many they can't all be good, but I really like this one and I hope you do to!
Thank you for taking the time to help me improve the sound quality, I sincerely appreciate it. I will be mastering to -0.4db going forward (like this one) - without your help I would never have known to do this, I listen to the files locally here either on my PC on on my Surfans F20 MP3 player.
I listened to the clip and then went back and listened carefully to the source file mp3- and that little artifact is there, so you are not imagining it! I think it probably comes from me moving the jog wheel or otherwise messing up during the beatmatching/cuing process on the controller when I played the set. Man you have got good ears!
Thank you again I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. There was a listener back when I first started that helped me in a similar way and I'm very grateful to you.
also fyi I reached out to mixcloud and this is how that looked (they are very responsive)
***************************** A listener is reporting playback issues- "skipping" starting at the 3 min mark of my last few mixes.
However when I play the mix on mixcloud it sounds fine, and the MP3 plays with no issues locally. The listener reports that he can play other mixes from other creators with no problems. He reports that is using the latest app, he has cleared the app cache, but that he experiences the issue both on the app and on desktop.
Is there an issue with my files? I am mastering the MP3 to -0.2db headroom before uploading, should I be leaving more space? My latest show "Singularity" is the one my listener mentioned, but he implied the same might be happening with "CyberLuxe"
Thank you so much ******************************** Thanks for getting in touch.
I understand one of your listeners is having issues when listening to your shows "Singularity" and "CyberLuxe".
We've investigated this from our end and were unable to identify any issues when playing these shows, including the 3-minute mark of "Singularity".
It is extremely unlikely that there is an issue with your audio file if you're not experiencing issues when listening to it on Mixcloud. After you upload your content, the way the show plays will be the same both for you as the uploader and the listeners.
You can test this if you listen to the show from another device or browser.
So, this all indicates that the issue lies with the listener's setup. It could have to do with their own hardware or internet connection. I'd advise them to troubleshoot by listening to the show from a different browser, device, and/or the app, and to switch between different Wi-Fi networks and mobile data.
If they're still having this issue, they'd need to contact us directly. It'd be very helpful if they can record what they can hear from their end and confirm the troubleshooting steps they've tried. This would help us narrow down the root cause of the issue.
In the meantime, if you need any additional information or help with anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. 🙂 Thanks,
Thank you so much for following up on this! I just finished listening to this and I very much enjoyed it. It seems like we've narrowed things down. It still seems very strange to me that increasing the headroom seems to address issues like this. It would have made sense if the audio was clipping but that's not what I've been hearing. Thank you for confirming that what I heard on this mix is also present in the original source. If it was an obvious imperfection in a transition I wouldn't have mentioned it. I only brought it up because it wasn't obviously part of a transition and it seemed similar to the other issues I've been hearing.
I'll listen back through the original Singularity mix and record what I hear. Would you be willing to share the source mp3 with me so that I can compare? Then, if I can confirm differences, I will reach out to mixcloud as they've suggested.
Lastly, thanks for making these available. As I've previously commented, I've been really liking your shows. I listen to music while working and need a pretty much endless supply of content. Like you, I eventually started creating my own and hosting them here. But I still spend a lot more time listening to others' mixes than my own and I love it when I discover something that really speaks to me.
Sure! I can send you the mp3 if you'd like - if you have a dropbox or something you want me to use maybe send me a link at heliogt2@outlook.com and I'll put the file in there for you. I can put the raw file that came out of the mixer and the final one that I uploaded here post-mastering.
Thinking about it a bit more, the 16:19 wobble you indentified might be rekordbox time-stretching as I have moved the tempo- I checked back and the track (Taylan- The Jungle) is natively at 123, I played it at 126. Doesn't explain the other instances though, so must be something to do with the loudness. Headscratcher!
