aniwaniwa is the DJ name of Sophie Yana Wilson (Nga Puhi, Ngai Tahu, Samoa). Sophie is a retired cellist and radio producer who uses DJing as a facade for creating narrative, lifeline, mapping of her surroundings in auckland. there she's inspired by the sadness, isolation and boredom that draws people to "the club".
This mix is dedicated to survivors of sexual abuse, particularly those resilient warriors in the New Zealand underground who continue to move forward despite constant disruption in the fantastical ghetto of respect us minors inhabit. We can ask the referees to call fowl but instead we continue to play ball in a game where we didn't make the rules.
