Poet and literary translator Arvis Viguls discusses the importance of translated poetry, for his own development, for Latvian culture, and generally. He speaks about his experience for example of translating Joseph Brodsky, and examines the challenges of translating poetry from Russian and Serbo-Croatian. He considers the Latvian poetic tradition in relation to others, shares with us some of his poetry (read in English by the translator, Jayde Will), and reminisces about working with student radio in Riga, under Socialism.
