New York 1980. Disco is soon about to crash and burn from overexposure, while hip hop (known also as disco rap) is just starting its journey to take over the world. The funk was part of them both, as can be heard in the bass lines and drum grooves.

This mixtape is a return to DJing as it was back in New York in 1980: two turntables, a mixer and a stack of killer tracks. Enjoy the time travel!

Tracklist

Playing tracks by Rick James, Sugarhill Gang, Spoonie G And The Treacherous Three, Freedom, Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five and more.

Great mix! Though I'm more of a rare grove jazz/funker, I am LOVING the early hip-hop stuff for real! Nice one! More please!

Thanks! I think that music from that era is criminally underrated. And the MC's had real skills, even in those two years of recorded hip hop! It was really fun being limited to only the "traditional" Dj equipment, although I'm looking forward to going back to my modern setup for my next mixtape.
