From New York, the greatest city in the world, and also the car alarm capital of America, it's The Update with Brandon Julien! After more than six weeks of working and dodging the heat, we're back and ready to go for another great year of hard working news. So, let's not waste any time, shall we?

Some stories talked about on tonight's show were:

1. Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio has signed a law to reactivate 140 speed cameras in New York City school zones.
The legislation was signed on Tuesday, the day before about a million kids head back to class.

2. A black restaurateur says in a civil rights lawsuit that he was wrongfully arrested while trying to help a white patron who was ailing. The New York Times says charges against MIST Harlem owner Clyde Pemberton and two employees were dropped last year.

3. The Kushner family real estate firm has amassed more than half a million dollars in unpaid fines for various New York City sanitation and building violations.
