Going on an indefinite hiatus

The Daffodil Perspective podcast is now officially on an indefinite hiatus.

This one woman voluntary, unfunded project is nearly three and a half years old. It’s been a massive drain on time, finances, energy and health, both mental, physical and emotional.

It’s time to take a break and re-assess everything.

My creativity is off the charts and the project is completely unique and trailblazing. This is a platform that plays a broader range of classical music that you will not hear anywhere else, a place where marginalised people belong, not included or assimilated but belong. If you’ve heard any diverse music on the BBC/Classic FM or performed live, chances are I already showcased that same music 2/3 years ago on The Daffodil Perspective.

I am not a publicist, marketing executive, social media expert, website designer, SEO person. I hate selling myself, publicising myself and it shows.

Unfortunately, creativity without publicity is useless.

I have a million and one ideas for radio shows and individual segments but no clue on how to attract listeners or donations or signups or anything.

I’ve done what I can but actually I’ve been digging a hole for 3 years, pouring all my energy into the wrong things. I’ve let this show consume my life.

I wanted to work in radio and started the project as a foot in the door as well as championing all this brilliant music. 4 years later I’m no closer to this goal, I’ve spent £30,000 in wasted labour hours as well as £4000 in direct costs and there is nothing to show for it. Plus I have no social and no romantic life.

I don’t have a spouse or partner, no parents, no inheritance, no trust fund. Just me and a minimum wage day job, renting a room in a London flatshare, barely enough to make ends meet, even without £100 or so paying towards this project every month.

I’ve made so many mistakes, asked for support in all the wrong ways and to the wrong people.

The Daffodil Perspective will return (cue the Bond theme music) at some point, it will definitely be monthly going forward and will definitely not be on a Friday.

Please check back towards the end of May for further updates.

In the meantime please consider donating something so I can afford to pay someone to help me with publicity.

Thank you for listening and your support.

Elizabeth, Does continuing my Mixcloud subscription help you? Helen

The Daffodil Perspective

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your comment and support. I've been looking into this and the Mixcloud subscriptions don't really help me. I have only made me personally £120 in over 2 years, nearly half the money from subscriptions doesn't actually go to me, going towards composer/songwriter royalties. This is on top of the licence fee I already pay for music licensing & royalties so it's not benefitting me at all. They've introduced Tipping now where 80% of the tip goes directly to me so I'm moving to that instead and all subscriptions will be cancelled. Thanks again. To continue please subscribe directly on my website https://www.thedaffodilperspective.org/support to set up a recurring subscription. Many thanks, Elizabeth
