“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious
about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does
not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and
then dies having never really lived.”---Dali Lama

The Present Moment of Spring
by: George Waldrop
the day I noticed the daffodils died
the moment I realized it, I cried
I guess, a tear in the moment
is better than a smile and being absent
from the present instant, their beauty
was seen, the present moment of spring

Time for Today
by: George Waldrop
time is a butterfly net, time walks and talks
time is within my thoughts, my state of mind
time is a every day point of view, think of now
time asked the question of yesterday, time answers
tomorrow, to reminisce, how to acquiesce, abide
belong to feel apart, concessions of the heart
contemplate the future purpose of my art
oh, you've been sick, I sure hope you feel better soon
it's just a common cold, all told, so insecure
to tell it out loud, to tell it so bold, not left untold
the pain I feel today, the strength it takes to say,
"I'm not okay" when I've been doing so well
when I open up everytime I have a therapy session
how talk therapy is a lesson I teach myself
in how to live, again I open up and let you in
slowly giving myself away, someday, sweet day
I will turn to say, "Thank You", then walk into my
new life, and go away, but that's in no way, today
today is a butterfly net, today walks and talks
today is within my thoughts, now is the time
today, I feel insecure
today, the feeling passes
today, I won't let me down
