Tallava is a specific kind of Romani dance music that originated in Kosovo in the 1980s and quickly spread among Roma communities in Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and the diaspora. It's characterised by highly ornamented and syncopated vocal and instrumental improvisation on a slow oriental beat, backed by a sustained chord (drone).
