Some context…. I was in LA a couple of weeks ago when the fires started, quite close to one of the evacuation zones. I spent a week with not much else to do but watch that hellscape unfold on the news 24 hrs a day. On my flight home I learned that producer Madlib was among those that lost his home / studio in the fires. I woke up with a respiratory infection and spent another week in bed. During the downtime I revisited the brilliant Madlib Medicine Show series, and was reminded how much his deep canonical knowledge, musical sensibility, and cleaver sampling, have all seeped in and helped shaped my own musical taste. No big speech, I just thought it would be a good time to look back and acknowledge the maestros influence, and use it as the guiding force for this mix. Weaving some “inspired” selections around his productions, and snippets from the MMS series. I hope you enjoy it!
