Sade 'A Smooth Operator'

To all intents and purposes, Sade should have disappeared from view after her all conquering ‘coffee table’ album Diamond Life. Its success made her an object of derision which is quite often impossible to come back from but Sade is made of much sterner stuff. She has remarkably played the game her way & thirty odd years on she has proved that less is more, withdraw when you like, make an album when you like (pity The Sundays couldn’t have mastered this) & above all be in control of everything without being a diva about it. It’s fair to say the music is not life changing but its the best of what it sets out to be & has assuaged many a broken heart.
