Being a big fan I approached the new tribute disc 'Looking Into You' with trepidation as It's very hard to hear a new version of songs you hold very dear, they become a poison chalice, a great song but how do you do it justice. By and large they don't, Lucinda Williams version of The Pretender (not included) is absolutely dreadful, she appears as a parody of herself. Bob Schneider gets included not because it's a great interpretation, it seems too ponderous in comparison with the original but because he sings it so well. The selections I took from the album have been augmented with selections that work better for me, such as the version of These Days (although very close to including Nico's version) by Greg Allman released at the same time as Browne's & Tom Rush's great version of Shadow Dream Song which has never been recorded by Browne as a solo artist. Tenderness On the Block appears by virtue of being a co-write with Warren Zevon.
