R&R: So what got you into music in the first place? What artists or genres did you start out listening to and why?
Killfire: My love for music started when I was really young, about 5 or 6. My dad gave me a walkman CD player with a couple records for it. Rob Zombie's Hellbilly deluxe, and a compilation of songs that were on Beavis and Butthead. So I've always had a thing for heavy music.
R&R: Why heavy music? What's more attractive about heavier stuff then lighter?
Killfire: For me, its the energy it carries, but it’s mood music too. I don’t always listen to the heavy stuff. I’m a huge fan of down tempo and triphop, like DJ Shadow and Massive Attack as well. The thing about my taste in music is that I don’t really have a dominant preference, I just kind of listen to what I feel like listening to.
R&R: Do you ever see yourself making something like chillstep?
Killfire: Probably, but I need to learn to make electronic music first. Hahaha
R&R: In the electronic world, who are some artists you look up to?
Killfire: Well, there’s the three artists that first introduced me to electronic music period. DJ Shadow, DJ Starscream, and Kraftwerk.
R&R: But now that' you're in to the EDM world, who do you look up to? Obviously you know many more names.
Killfire: Oh, of course. The artist that got me into heavy electronic bass music is Skrillex, and everything just kind of built off of that. That introduced me to artists like Rusko, Skream, Nero, and then just searching related artists for literally hours. But when it comes to idols, Skrillex is no doubt who I look up to. Sonny is an incredibly talented musician and producer and I really dig the whole brostep thing so his music is perfect for my taste.
R&R: What do you hope to achieve with your music? Any personal goals?
Killfire: I’m very weary of setting goals, because it’s impossible to know what the future holds no matter how talented you are. What I mainly aspire now is at least to become well known in Atlanta, which I’m apparently doing a decent job of already haha, but also to build connections with some of the promoters around here that have absolutely insane resources and connections at their disposal that I just wouldn’t have by myself.
R&R: Could you see yourself playing large festivals? Or do you like smaller venues?
Killfire: Both, I love everything. I love playing shows period. As long as there are people going hard as fuck to my set, I’m happy.
R&R: What's your personal life been like? Has it changed with the Music? Are your friends and family supportive?
Killfire: My personal life influences my sets a lot. Sometimes, I use sets as a catharsis to release pent up emotions. It hasn’t really changed I guess, though I do get stopped and recognized in clubs and people telling me a lot how much they like what I’m doing. My friends are supportive, they tell me I’ll do great things one day (I hope they’re right) but I don’t really talk much about it at home.
