50 years ago we laid witness to one of the most groundbreaking years in music history. It was undoubtedly one of the most important single years in the birthing of Psychedelic Rock, but was also host to many other pioneering movements in music. This 2.5hour set touches on some of the well-known releases, while giving ample space to lesser-known artists of the era.
Western pop music had begun to shed its 3-minute chorus/verse arrangements, and looking to the East for influence. Electronics, tape manipulations, sitar, drones, free-form improvisations, and stream-of-consciousness lyrical compositions had been firmly seated in 'avant-garde' circles up until this point, but by 1967, the floodgates had opened.
Live radio broadcast initially aired during a fund drive, but has been uploaded here with much of the talk breaks edited down, so the focus is mostly on the music.
