Party Time 012
It’s all a bit wonky, this one. Experimental electronics, spoken word and rap, a Morrissey track with an interesting sample (dubious but an interesting contradiction), some cloud rap, breakcore, very glitchy hip-hop, a selection of garage rock that takes me back to my youth missing the last tube to drink Newky Browns at the Dirty Water Club. Ends with a nice rubdown: club, kraut, exotica.
Highlights: the Brexit and Me Too inspired openers from Jessica Sligter and ST/NE, Kitty (formerly Kitty Pryde) laying down those perfect droll vocals onto a simple bubbler, the sound of Icelandic gabba from Bjarki, Maternity Stomp perfectly summing up the maddening experience of child-rearing. Also have to mention my current musical hero Dylan Brady who ties it all off with a beefy autotune belter that slaps hard.
