The popularity of SMT games makes me want to kill someone, it's a seething ocean of poseurs. I thought that the new SMT was simultaneously somehow punishingly difficult AND pandering.

I think what you said about an internal sense of achievement vs. being told by an outside source that you've achieved something is something inherently wrong with a lot of genres now, not just rhythm games, but the whole death of the rhythm game scene really brings me down.

It was immediately apparent to me after I got Guitar Hero 3 that like... it was difficult to pinpoint but the tracks just weren't as well designed. You were doing essentially the same thing it was just much less fun somehow. Also the second to last song set is suddenly difficulty wall Raining Blood GG.
