This is episode 4: Modal Jazz

This time, I'll try to sweep you off your feet with one of the most exhilarating forms of jazz: Modal Jazz. Born in the late 50s, it flourished across the 60s, most notably under the impulsion of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans and many more... Based on the repetition and variations on a same musical pattern, reminiscent of classical waltzes, its incantatory element, inspired improvisations and elating effect makes it the mother lode of spiritual jazz.
