Andy Irvine’s musical journey comes full circle with Devoted: Songs of Woody Guthrie, an album honoring the songwriter who helped inspire his lifelong love of folk music. Ahead of his Midwest tour, Andy joins us to discuss selecting songs from Guthrie’s vast catalog, exploring the Woody Guthrie Archive in Tulsa, and bringing unfinished lyrics to life through traditional melodies and fresh arrangements.

He also shares personal memories of his correspondence with Guthrie in 1959 and 1960, recording at home, and balancing new material with the Planxty and Sweeney’s Men repertoire fans love. A fascinating conversation about folk storytelling, protest songs, musical tradition, and keeping Woody Guthrie’s legacy alive.
