Welcome to Volume 9 of my Africanisms series!!

Thank you to all those who have checked out the previous 9 mixes and helped make them amongst my most successful mixes on Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/MrLob/playlists/afro-mixes/

This mix is a continuation of my love of African and more specifically Afrobeat music.

I like the extended tracks, the wildness of its rhythms, the raw funkiness of it and I like how I hear it emanating thru other music from other places and in other genres.

This set is not about pushing boundaries or discovering new hidden gems but about sharing what I like about Afro music, both old and new.

Hope you enjoy it to...

Cheers Jimmy, appreciate your listen. Not sure what you mean by 'totally sucked for the ride' though?

My pleasure, thanks for listening and commenting! I hope you do get a chance to check out the previous 8 episodes as each is different and real fun.

The Soul Preacher

Very uncommon and interesting set. As you know I'm musically a friend of the sixties and the seventies and you make me know I should look more into contemporary music. And I got to admit the song by "Atte" was the first in the set I would have affiliated with Africa at all. When was the album of Nicole Willis "Happiness In Every Style" recorded? I wasn't sure just from listening and only have some of her assumably earlier work ... THANKS for introducing this variety show!

Thank you for your comment and for your listen as I know this is not necessarily your type of music or what you are into. I guess the purpose of this series is to introduce people to the impact that African music and particularly Afrobeat has had on modern groups, producers and djs. While many tracks in this set are not straight African productions, many of the sounds contained within are and/or are influenced heavy by Afro sounds. The Nicole Willis album was released in October 2015 and is her 5th album and a wonderful album. More details here: http://lightintheattic.net/releases/1976-happiness-in-every-style

The Soul Preacher

Yes sure, I understood the mix as you described it. Thanks again. Your link fascinates me for other reasons even more. OMG! They have several compilations of the super rare "Loma" recordings. I stock some original 7" 45s on Loma such as "There's Something On Your Mind, Part 1 & 2" by Baby Lloyd Stallworth who himself was a member of James Brown's "Famous Flames". ... so your link is very expensive but much appreciated :)
That's the single as a white label copy. Mine has a yellow label and was around 35 USD:
