I love when songs are extended but only if they are done well, with a buiding atmosphere, sound, offering multiple emotions. If it's only playing the same riff for ages, I turn it off.
Not everybody is able to play doomy sound like Electric Wizard or Sleep but in other heavier labelled-genres, I always found awesome records with lengthy songs: Cult of Luna is on top list but Stonebirds, Membrane, In The Company Of Serpents play music in which you can loose yourself.
i really enjoy the way Cult of Luna explores musical landscapes!
