King Sunny Ade.
Jùjú music lovers are all familiar with the King, Sunny Ade. But the Emperor, Pick Peters, is a lesser-known light who deserves credit. The contemporaries who push the greats are rarely remembered so this mix is homage to the next in line. According to Peters, Ade‘s lyrics in ‘E Kilo F’omo Ode’ (warn the hunter’s son) were a jibe addressed to him. He responded by waxing the ironic release, ‘Omo Ode De’ (the hunter’s son has arrived) which added some spice to the seventies scene. Foes who have since become friends, their careers obviously followed very different paths. While Ade’s discography is immense, the brevity of Pick Peters life at the top doesn’t mean his work should be forgotten.
