Back in 2012, I'd played the opening night at Hope Works in Sheffield & with Black Dog, Matt Walsh & Hiem at CADS in Sheffield. I was also mid-way through treatment for cancer, having been diagnosed in 2010. No spoilers, but I'm writing this in 2026, so you know how that one worked out. "Death Disco" was a play on a few things: The Title from PIL as a nod to post-punk, Jah Wobble and dub as well as a nod to mortality which I'd spent more time around than planned. The "disco" element, being the light to the dark of the D-word. So the mix kicks off with Beryl Reid & dialogue from cult Brit-horror film Psychomania, takes in some 120bpm chuggers, Weatherall's remix of Wooden Shjips and dark basement party tracks like CD vs CD's "I Really Do Believe" & Caribou's remix of Virgo Four as well as Annette’s early acid house “Dream 17”
