Living in Bermuda in the early 80's it was impossible to hear the latest sounds from the UK. We could get hold of Smash Hits magazine or the NME, and my friend Mark & I would spend our paper round wages mail-ordering records we had never heard, usually off the Indie chart. We acquired the most random and eclectic collection!
This mix salutes some of those records: The Danse Society, Gene Loves Jezebel, Play Dead, The Gun Club, Toyah, Lords Of The New Church and The March Violets in particular. Bauhaus, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Clash, The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Jam, The Stranglers... all bands we loved and followed. The Alarm, Big Country and even The Cult produced a transatlantic sounding, stadium ready folk-rock that U2 eventually mastered. Someone gave me a 999 album on cassette and I loved it. The Au Pairs track that kicks it all off is a current fave I've only just discovered via 6 Music.
Cheers and thanks to all that listen. I do appreciate your support! ๐
