Hearing the Yasmin Williams track in your mix gave me the last bit of the puzzle that made this mix fall into place. Didn't think you'd mind me half-inching it because you'd owned up to a bit of your own cherry picking.
I know what you mean about the context thing. Sometimes I'll hear tracks that I play a lot in other people's sets and they'll sound different because of the different context they've been put in. I think: what you think are the salient features of this tune aren't the same things that I do. I like that. It's like borrowing another pair of ears.
It's like we're all personally remixing music in our heads according to our own personal tastes and listening history.
Which may be what we're doing with experience in general.

Thanks papa, best soul balm for me lately has been the Stanley Turrentine version of I Told Jesus that I heard for the first time in your last session. Also reminded me to make more effort to check out what Steve Cobby's been up to since the days of Fila Brazillia and The Cutler because I liked hearing him playing at Pablo. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the steer. I like what I know of Stanley Turrentine / Shirley Scott, and I've always liked the Roberta Flack version of "I Told Jesus" but I didn't know that version at all. (Am I blindingly old-man late on this or is CTI having a bit of a moment? Been tempted to shoehorn some old CTI favourites from Milt Jackson and George Benson into upcoming mixes...)

Agreed about the jazz thing, very much so in my turf ( SE London).
(As for age...I like feeling part of a community of Mixcloud midlifers who DON'T spend their time moaning on the socials that no decent music has been released since they were twenty-one. Can't be doing with that.)
