good stuff! very chill vibes.
Thanks for listening PJL, appreciate it.
There's been a big influx of listeners here over the last few days and it looks like they've all come via you. Appreciate that as well!
yeah I think the "repost" function definitely does have an effect on listeners via whatever algorithm they have going. when other people who more followers than me repost my mixes, I get more folks coming through.
Well, thanks for keeping the good karma rolling.
Spread love!
great show and selection. Thank you for introducing me to Delta Saxaphone Quartet.
Thanks NS. Looks like the Delta Saxophone Quartet track was the one that caught everyone's attention.
(it wasn't me; busy week and late to comment...!)
this is a great one M'Lord!
first listen was a bit broken up by work and distractions, so I chilled on headphones for an hour late last night with this - pastoral and then deep, expansive and reflective, retro and modern, with some blistering moments of flaming bliss too.
especially liked: allysen callery, delta saxophone quartet (those effects!), mansur brown and the ash walker piece too... an excellent selection and nice to hear some carla bley as well.
a great (un-twee!) blanket for a winters eve.
top job, thanks for making & sharing and be good there. P...
Aww, thanks Papa. Touched at your setting this aside for a dedicated quality time listen.
Delta Saxophone Quintet: I checked out the DJ Kolbasz special on them this week. Some really good music in there, especially the Reich and Nyman pieces, but no ventures into FX / studio enhancement that I could hear in that set.
Huge respect for Carla Bley's writing and composition. I like this late "chamber music" period, and I've seen that trio twice, but I'm so glad that I caught her big band a couple of times in the 90s before economic realities and her health issues put paid to that project. They were a force of nature.
Be lucky, and if you can't be lucky be wise - LBH
Have I deleted someone's comment by mistake? I can see a mismatch with the Mixcloud stats.
Sorry if that was you...
Lovely stuff. Very much enjoyed listening to this at the weekend. Some new names so thanks for the introductions.
The Delta Sax Quartet were sublime - I want to hear more! Never knew Mansur Brown could do thoughtful introspection - only heard him freaking out gloriously on Snitches Brew with Kamaal Williams. And I think Hammock might be a new favourite - off I go down that rabbit hole. 🙏🏽✌🏽
Thanks COS! The Delta Saxophone Quartet track is from an album of their reinterpretations of Soft Machine's music, but I'd like to hear more as well. This set looks worth a punt -

(and I see that it's already had the thumbs up from Natalie S of this parish.)
The more I hear of Mansur Brown, the more impressed I get. Like you say, he can burn it up or spin this kind of quiet hypnotic web. Really like his use of FX as well. I kind of think of him as a bridge between some of the electric jazz guitarists that I first heard in the last century and the way that Hammock use digital age tech to blur and transform the sound of the guitar almost out of recognition.
This is a real beauty with a fantastic selection, my friend.
Cheers mate, I really do appreciate your ears and your support.
Just wanted to make something quiet and wintry for one of those days when the shadows are long and the sun's low in the sky, and the ice on the puddles needs breaking if the sparrows are going to gat a look in...
