LAndscape: Desolation Center

Relive a series of parties that reshaped Los Angeles music through site-specific sound experiences. From 1983 to 1985, Stuart Swezey and his fearless collaborators brought busloads of enthusiastic freaks to remote sites in the Mojave Desert and the San Pedro Harbor for radical, communal sound experiences. These nomadic happenings known as Desolation Center, were key moments that laid the groundwork for contemporary, immersive concerts and destination festivals. Swezey and Frosty came together for an interview in the Desolation Center retrospective exhibition at Cornelius Projects in San Pedro, CA to discuss the legacy of these normative-shattering happenings.
