In the early ’00s, discovering music by the likes of Four Tet, The Notwist and The Books felt like flicking through someone’s deeply personal scrapbook at high speed. Laden with samples and snatches of conversation, these songs were transportive, historic, and willfully imperfect. A founding member of The Notwist, Markus Acher’s love for collage and experimentation is still writ large; recording as Rayon, he recently provided the music for Eleonora Danco’s film N-Capace. His Kit mix further explores film and library music, coming across like a whistle-stop tour of eccentric characters and intertwining dialogues. It is in fact a collection of songs that inspired Markus as he wrote the music for N-Capace, and contains some alternate versions of songs from the score. Wonderful!
