Indeed, decent comfort and treatment of supporters like real people (if you treat supporters like scum they will behave like scum) came about 100 years too late, but happily it did come eventually. I know that Sunday Times quote of a few years earlier and I won't defend it, but I have very little time for all the enthusiasts for 1980s football you get in YouTube comments, who gloss over all its faults and make it unintentionally clear that, when they say they are concerned about the working class, they only mean working-class people who look like them. The music playlist here seems to be very much in line with the direction in which David Hamilton & Steve Jones had wanted to take Radio 2, as opposed to the approach of Jameson or Jacobs - obviously the really old, pre-rock stuff was being played on FM at this time by Benny Green & Alan Dell, although there was some controversy that year when their shows were rested for something even older, namely the complete Gilbert & Sullivan.
