The year we found out who Padme Amidala’s baby daddy was, and a fine, fine year of some of my favorite movies I would not see until years later. Music-wise, radio was king in our household, and the mix here has different elements of black radio which proudly represented funk, disco, soul, contemporary jazz, and what Bernie Mac called, “Happy Rap”. I tend to sometimes bring up the bpms a bit too early during a set, which results in some records that got “left behind” so to speak.
I did manage to include Teena Marie, Zapp, Grover Washington Jr., Fatback, Junie Morrison, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Stacy Lattisaw, ConFunkShun, Cameo, Mammatapee, Sugarhill Gang & The Sequence, Starpoint, Prince, Mtume and Herbie Hancock.
