I would have to agree. I enjoy Jump On It a little more than Birdseye View, too. I hadn't pinpointed it to stemming from the drummer. I'll have to give them a close listen back to back. Truthfully, I came to both of the recordings because of Peter Madsen. I love his work with Mario Pavone. He's one of those pianists (like the late Jaki Byard) that could play anything.
I had a chance to track down one other AM-NOHB CD, and while the drummer on the other one is good, and the tunes are good, Boudreaux makes that CD special. The right drummer, with the 'feel' for the NO groove, makes a BIG difference. DrJ

BTW, the drummer on the Mears track (and the rest of the album) is Jeff Boudreaux, son of the late Baton Rouge bandleader, Buddy Boudreaux. JB used to do bar gigs in BR & NO back in the day. Jeff's living in Paris! Mears ought to be a 'household word' in the jazz world. Great player and composer. DrJ
