20 years ago we imagined that the fusion of jazz and hip hop would continue to produce ‘cinematic’ music drawing on the rich history of players like Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders exploring the dimensions of spirit and struggle. These imaginings have become real with the emergence of the visionary compositions of Makaya McCraven, Alfa Mist and Shabaka Hutchings.
