So, when my friend asked about where to start familiarizing herself with classical music, many ideas were given: lists, online radio stations, names of composers, live venues, the lot. So one of the responses was this pair of playlists. This one is more toward the romantic than vol.1. Of course, in discussing "classical music" it was presumed this meant baroque and romantic and so on. But in any case here's another random amble through some things. The first one is from a Time-Life box set I bought in the Village Thrift in Germantown, Philadelphia, in 1982 or so. Nathan Milstein. But I have never heard a soloist so smoking on this, nor an orchestra so on top of the soloist in this way. Just incredible. And I had never heard of Benjamin Godard until a few weeks ago, when I downloaded this concerto from the Hyperion label web site.
