Stemming off the budding tree of UK punk, folk punk emerged in the US as early as 1980 with the establishment of the Violent Femmes. Folk Punk merges traditional Americana instrumentation (washboards, banjos, acoustic guitars) with structureless punk angst. It eventually grew into the more successful celtic folk; even influences from the UK and Ireland in particular can be heard in these selected tracks
