Originating (some would argue) with Brian Eno's 1978 Ambient 1: Music for Airports, "ambient" is a minimalist branch off the large electronic tree. Utilizing the localization of space (echoy room sizes, reverb on heavy, and intricate use of panning between stereo channels), ambient creates music that is at once present yet non-intrusive.
