Combing developments in the Chicago house scene with several decades of techno uprising (late '80s), acid techno is primarily focused on the sounds made by many Roland synths. The sounds are distinct and thrashy and incorporate a new interpretation of the techno 'breakbeat.' Live programming the synth's parameters lead DJs to focus on the artistry of techno over pre-programmed sliders and filters.
