Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global noise chart, 2nd in the global classical chart, 4th in the global experimental chart, 22nd in the global jazz chart and 22nd in the global chillout chart.

Old meets New, and East meets West. And in the spotlight, Ingrid Laubrock, joining host Mike Schell to talk about her new quartet album All Set, which borrows ideas—and its title—from Milton Babbitt's classic composition. Listen to tracks by Laubrock and co-saxophonist Stéphane Payen, juxtaposed with Babbitt's original as interpreted by BMOP.

In a similar vein is a new string quartet by Gerald Resch which chisels away at Beethoven’s No. 7. On the cross-cultural front, we hear Clarence Barlow channeling minimalism and Indian drones , Surabhi Saraf doing likewise with vocals, Dal:um modernizing Korean strings, and Vavabond contemplating electronic womb realms. We also continue our traversal of Matt Mitchell/Kate Gentile’s massive new box set, practice underwater breathing with Steph Richards, preview the Webstream of Abraham's Land, and celebrate Zeena Parkins at 65. Creative & improvised music from the Northwest and around the world.
