The Origins of Ferragosto:
Historically, Ferragosto has ancient roots dating back to the Roman Empire. The term "Ferragosto" derives from the Latin "feriae Augusti," meaning "Augustus' Holidays." This holiday was introduced in 18 BC by Octavian Augustus, after whom the month of August is named. Ferragosto was a period of rest and harvest celebration, as farmers celebrated the end of work in the fields, and it combined the main holidays of the time. Festivals and horse races were held throughout the empire, and draft animals, which were not required to work in the fields, were adorned with flowers. Ferragosto was originally celebrated on August 1st, although there were actually many more days of rest and celebration. I wish everyone a happy August 15th!❤️
