Airto & Flora Purim are some of the few musicians that reach legendary status by what they did on other peoples records, without knowing who they were at first. Airto's percussion created deep textures on Miles Davis's electric recordings. Airto bleep,bopped,shreeeeed with his mouth while painting a landscape with his shakers as if we trekked through the Amazon on foot. Flora Purim's beauty was nothing compared to her vocal attacks on microphones everywhere. Flora Purim's range of ability covered jazz,soul,funk,samba,experimental. The brazilian songstress may be known mostly for her contribution on Chick Corea's super group "Return To Forever". Flora Purim would go from cool jazzy to high octaves screams that would chase Mariah Carey out of town. Truth is "Return To Forever" was never the same after she left the group. Flora's solo works with George Duke were memorable as well. As a duo Airto & Flora's contribution to Brazilian and American jazz is still unmatched.
