DJSoc012: PXM

170bpm territory this week as PXM steps up for an hour of sharply-rendered dnb compressions. Despite enjoying electronic music in its many guises, it is drum and bass where Pat’s selections most often take hold, having built up an admirable collection of records during his time at university. For the latest DJSoc mix, PXM stays true to the game, delivering a tight-selection of the finest records right across the dnb spectrum. With tracks both old and new, here DJSoc012 juxtaposes light with dark (for added dancefloor punch!), with the distinctively summer vibes of Random Movement’s ‘Waterlogged’ giving way to the low-end growls of Break’s ‘Crunchy’. As the set progresses, the deeper, rolling material of Spectrasoul and Apex slowly make way for the toughened drum patterns of Rockwell and Noisia, with the final bullet to the head coming courtesy of Black Sun Empire and D-Kay.
