Thee Commons is a psychedelic cumbia punk band from East Los Angeles. They formed two years ago and from the start have been highly influenced and motivated by the DIY aesthetics emerging in peers and friends such as Chicano Batman, Viento Callejero, and Las Cafeteras. Thee Commons joins Conscious Radio for an Interview and a few LIVE songs. Tune in to hear their unique sound combining the surf sounds of "chicha" (los orientales, juaneco y su combo, los mirlos) with our affinity and romance for the Chicano "pocho" garage rockers of 50's and 60's (early midniters, the premiers, question mark and the mysterians) along with a twist of the East LA "punk" scene and the cumbias we would hear as children at family parties (Sonora Dinamita, Chico Che, Rigo Tovar) then you can quite possibly arrive at a what is known as Thee Commons music.
