When the 1980s first began, most Americans could hum the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 (AKA the Pop Singles Chart); and knew what the Number One Song was. Country and Western singers, as well as Jazz and Blues artists released some of their songs for the pop chart. In the middle part of the decade, the music industry started fragmenting. Today fewer than three percent of Americans site the blues as their favorite music, and jazz only makes up two percent of the market. However country singers have long since figured out that they could go Platinum without going pop. Not long after that, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands would come to the same conclusion. Since the start of the New Millennium, even adult contemporary artist no longer release their songs as pop. Now the pop charts are dominated by R&B, Hip Hop, and maybe Electro/sych Pop. But you can STILL turn it up, and enjoy!
