About the show
Playing tracks by
Eric Clapton, Creedence Clearwater Revival , The Who, The Doors, John Mellencamp and more.
This is the 3rd of my rain mixes. It’s mostly classic rock and blues artists singing songs you’ve heard before but hopefully there are a few surprises.
Lou Ann Barton pours herself into a tune from Old Enough, an incredibly well-produced album by Jerry Wexler.
Janis Joplin makes Nina Simone’s “Little Girl Blue” a whole ‘nuther song – her own.
“When The Levee Breaks”, an old Led Zep song adroitly covered by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, wasn’t included on Raising Sand. They performed it in February of 2008 on a television show called CMT Crossroads.
And I’d forgotten about “Chain Lightning” by Steely Dan. Yeah, I know Becker and Fagen were dissatisfied with the sound on the Katy Lied album but the tune really showcases how great they were at fusing jazz, rock, funk, and pop.
Yesterday’s Rain is dedicated James Fidler, the cloud-drawing weatherman on Channel 7 in Austin back in the 70’s and 80’s who really knew his stuff. He certainly deserves a cloudcast of his own.
