In this first episode of Offbeats, we travel to western Africa, Mali specifically. The traditional music of Mali is full of sounds that are unmistakably African. Instruments like the Kora are prevalent in a lot of their music, as well as their very distinct vocal style. It’s not just traditional music being focused on here. Mali is also a great source of blues and rock and you’ll be hearing plenty of that.
The combination of traditional and modern styles is so unique and wonderful to listen to. Be ready to become obsessed with Malian music.
