In mental cognition the mind takes the shape of the object and drags the consciousness towards it. The mind cannot be isolated from the consciousness that is animating it. We cannot isolate ourselves from perceptual processes.
Samsara is the subject becoming the object. Moksha is the object becoming the subject. When we become the object, we are a samsarin. When the object has become us, we are free. However, the mind is not an object of perception.
Substance is a colocation of conditions. Observe substance that is absent of any condition(s)
Six Words of Advice from Tilopa
