John Hargate, AKA DJ Para took his first influences from artists like Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino so it was no surprise that growing up so close to Wigan in the 1970s he became immersed in the northern soul scene. A regular at the Casino, Blackpool Mecca and the Ritz in Manchester, he was lucky enough to be around to hear some of the great DJs of that era spinning the classics of the sixties and the new funk and disco that was emerging at the time.
