Vampyr (1932)
The Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper are back in the new year with their 20th episode extravaganza! This week, we go big with the ambitious 1932 film, 'Vampyr', from Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer while finally taking a look at one of horror's biggest icons, the vampire. The story of Dracula had already experienced notoreity across the pond with the 1922 German film, 'Nosferatu', and was being prepared for an American interpretation at the advent of sound. Dreyer, looking to take the demonic vampire tale in a different direction, used the same source material that Bram Stoker had for his 1892 novel, 'Dracula', and brought his atmospheric, nightmarish vision of a man's descent into the occult to life. Panned by critics upon its release, the Phantom and Lester are ready to give this film another chance. Will they drive the lethal stake into this art house flick's heart? Or will they be seduced by its lustful bite? Only one way to find out, and that's by tuning in!
