The Brood (1979)

Join us as we celebrate the decade that was the '70s, and the decade to come, with a film that blends the two together nicely under the tutelage of director David Cronenberg. 1979's "The Brood" comes to us teeming with some of Cronenberg's most personal connections to his failing marriage, and he puts his emotions on display the only way he can: by mutilating the body. The story follows a couple, torn apart by the wife's psychological issues, in the midst of a custody battle. The therapy she's signed up for, however, isn't your run-of-the-mill Freudian analysis; instead, she's being healed through psychoplasmis, or the manifestation of rage through physical transformations in the body. Lester and the Phantom talk all things Cronenberg as they get set for the unpredictable decade of the '80s peeking around the corner.
