The Avenging Conscience (1914)

The year of 1914 is the year that film's first great director, D.W. Griffith, emerged from simply a prolific filmmaker into one of the greatest. On the cusp of his epics, Birth of a Nation and Intolerance, Griffith teams with one of his regular actors, Henry Walthall, as they attempt to merge two famous Edgar Allan Poe tales, "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "Annabel Lee". Enter the boiler room once again to hear the Phantom Erik and Lester Reaper travel back to 1914 and discuss The Avenging Conscience, along with other films and themes inspired by one of the elder statesmen of horror, Edgar Allan Poe.
