Häxan (1922)
This year, Benjamin Christensen reels us back in for another classic of Scandinavian Horror, Häxan. In this film, Christensen attempts to weave his education on witchcraft with terrific imagery and effects that surely sent audiences screaming back into the cold night. Disguised as a documentary, Häxan contains fantastic reenactments of witch-hunts and rituals from the middle ages that show how, sometimes, truth can be stranger than fiction. But is Christensenreally telling the truth in this film? Perhaps that's for his audiences to decide...
